Making ebru Christmas cards

Exactly one year ago today I made a couple ebru marbles at home.
Why did I not share my findings?
Well because firstly because I’m bad at blogging and secondly because I kind of hated the results.

The colours weren’t as vibrant as they were with my first run at Ambacht in beeld and little drips and smudges were making me feel like a massive failure.
But then that changed this year!

It’s the 24th of December 2024.
I still need to send my holiday cards, I’m late, very late.
I blame the messy year and the lack of ideas but I really really don’t want to use an online card-service to send my holiday wishes around.
I’m not against them or anything, but I’m a handmade gall and far too stubborn to delegate.

I started with the idea of making stars or something from leftover scraps of paper but quickly veered off to my small a7 pieces of suminagashi instead.
Putting a little art-piece onto each card felt like the way to go.
Until I found I didn’t have enough of each in the right colour scheme…

So then I decided “why not cut up some bigger pieces?” so I look for my bigger sheets of suminagashi…and…can’t…find…them.

Well fuck.

I pull out a roll that I think is the right one but instead they’re just the failed ebru I did last year.

But then they don’t look as bad as I thought they did.
Sure they have some errors here and there.
But if I cut there up then surely I’ll end up with something interesting right? And I already used green and red for some of them.
I’m not feeling too precious about them anyway so I might as well give it a shot.

And then they came out really nice!

Cutting off all the bits I didn’t like makes them look a whole lot better!
So yeah
That’s something fun I wanted to share.
I also wanna wish you Fijne feestdagen (Happy holidays) and thank you for being here.
